Reviews:

Great stuff!5
I purchased this mousse and it is wonderful! I have been going to a tanning salon to get the spray tan and loved the results but hated the cold spray especially in the winter weather. Now that I’ve found this product I’m considering cancelling my membership at the salon. The results are absolutely the same if not better. The color is great and not a streak to be found. No orangy look either, very natural looking. I’m just wondering how long an 8oz bottle will last me. I ordered a 2nd one cuz I don’t want to run out.

Sony DAV-IS10 5.1-Channel Micro Satellite Home Theater System with TDM-IP1 iPod Cradle

ProductSony DAV-IS10 5.1-Channel Micro Satellite Home Theater System with TDM-IP1 iPod Cradle

Nice system for those with limited space.4
I just bought this system a couple of weeks ago and am very happy with it.

It’s especially good for those with limited space and/or who want a limited visual impact from their sound system. Which were top considerations in my choice. It’s a nice system, with only a couple exceptions (*See comments below…)

First, the control module, with DVD player is very compact (a little over 8″ X 8″ X4″) and has a clear display (although, it would have been nice if the numbers and words displayed were a little bigger… minor issue). It has many adjustments that can be made for different sound “fields”, ie: DTS, Dolby II, etc. and can also be connected to your i-Pod or Computer, with connector modules available through the Sony On-line store. There are settings for component or HDMI setups. There is one HDMI out to TV and also seperate connections for Component cables if you are not using HDMI. The multiple connection options worked well for me, as I was able to connect to my Satellite receiver and another DVD/VHS player.

The DVD player produces an excellent picture, which I have set for 1080i “upscaling”. A nice feature is, that if you stop the DVD at some point, it remembers this and will start back at this point, when you either hit play again or even if you have removed that DVD and put it back in. I think the manual said it remembers the last 10 different DVD stopping points.

Now, getting to How it Sounds… I rate it 4 out of 5. It’s got deep bass, full middle range and crisp highs. *The one thing that is critical with this system, is that the sub-woofer unit, which contains both the mid-range and bass speakers; MUST be placed as close to the tv as possible (and preferrably in back of), as it is reproducing a large part of the middle (voice) range. The sub-woofer can NOT be placed in front of the screen (or way off to the side), as you will then notice the voices coming from the sub-woofer unit and not the screen. If placed correctly, on either side of the screen and slightly behind or directly behind the screen; the system does a good job of creating the perception that all the voices are coming from the screen and not the sub-woofer/mid-range unit. Also, the mid-range speaker (for voice) is in the top of the sub-woofer unit and cannot be blocked, so it cannot be placed inside a cabinet and forget about using the top of the unit as a “plant stand”! ; )

One note of caution, DO NOT try and pick up the sub-woofer; by using the sub-woofers ports as “hand holds”. Although, they would appear to work perfectly for this, the bass speaker sits just inside of these ports and you could easily damage it.

The 5 speakers are amazingly tiny and do a good job on the highs and “upper level” mid-range (the lower middle range, being handled by the middle/sub-woofer unit). The system comes with wall brackets for each of the 5 small speakers. I purchased the speaker stands (available seperately through the Sony On-Line store and are ridiculously high priced!), which are designed to work specifically for these speakers and are fortunately well made. Without the stands, the speakers can easily be placed on tables. They are very light though and can easily be knocked off, so a little “double sided” tape may be advised in this situation.

*The AM/FM receiver works well and although it sounds “ok” playing music CD’s, this is not this units main “strength”. You’ll probably prefer another sound system, dedicated to playing music. The issue I noted, is that you have to make some adjustments to the bass, middle and treble and selected “sound fields”, to bring out the best of your music CD and unfortunately, these settings are not “stored” in the system for just music; so you have to reset everything when switch to watching TV or a DVD. Almost more trouble than it’s worth. I would not recommend this system for those who want to frequently switch between listening to music and watching TV/DVD’s.

The remotes buttons are logically placed. They are varied in sizes with a couple raised “points” to help locate the correct ones in a darkened room. I would have appreciated, at this price range, an illumination feature; which it does not have.

If you have a newer Sony TV, it will also turn on the TV and sound system simultaneously. I have a Samsung hdtv, so I have to turn on each seperately, but interestingly enough, when I shut off the TV (using it’s remote), this Sony system also shuts off at the same time.

It has a relatively clear and comprehensive manual, which is definitely required for all the adjustments and settings you’ll need to make to get it calibrated and set up between the tv and different components. Although you can get through most settings, using the on-screen menus, without referring to the manual.

I am very pleased with this system. The construction of all components if of high quality materials and when set up correctly, it’s impressive in the sound it creates from the tiny speakers working along with the bass/mid-range sub-woofer module. If you are looking for a top “audio-file” system, this probably isn’t the system for you. If you have limited space and want a fairly unobtrusive looking system, with good quality sound, it’s definitely worth considering.

Looks aren’t everything2
I was very interested in this product when I first saw it at Circuit City. When you stand 2-3 feet away from the speakers the sound is thick and brilliant and it looks great. Step away, and it sounds terrible. The problem is that speakers of this size cannot generate low or mid range frequencies very well. So the subwoofer, which typically would run at 20-80hz is running closer to 20-250hz… possibly 20-400hz this causes problems with imaging and imbalance in the sound. The reviewer who commented about subwoofer placement being crucial to this unit performing well is exactly correct, and unfortunately, most users will never achieve the correct placement of the subwoofer due to room design issues. This should be a deal breaker for most people considering this product. Most people can find a home theater solution that will sound better in their environment for less money. If looks are important to you, get an in wall solution.

Acceptable Sound, Beware of Sync with Sony Bravia, High Price.3
I’m a great fan of Sony when it comes to video not audio. I thought this unit will sync with my new Sony Bravia TV that I bought from Amazon, KDL-46V2500…Wrong! Be sure to check compatibility before you buy it. The theater set claimed to “sync”(volume control of TV) with Bravia TVs.

The sound is decent but cannot justify the price. I would rate it comparable to home theater systems in the $400 range.

Here’s a bit more technical if you are connecting to a non-compatible Sony Bravia. The best way to connect is through optical output(Toslink). However, optical on Sony TVs are only available when you have a digital signal directly from the cable. That means the ones getting HD signal from a cable box or Satellite box are out of luck. I have also own a Samsung TV that outputs optical regardless of input signal. Since I’m trying to connect to a Sony TV, a RCA is my only option which defeats the purpose of having a great audio system. I have called the Sony 800 support and confirmed this. Sigh…I put more info at the bottom if you’re trying to connect another device such as PS3 or Cable box via Optical sync if you have RCA connected to the TV.

So, if you’re looking for a space saver, this is it! Otherwise, you may be better off with lower end model. This is particularly true if you’re trying to connect to a non-Bravia Sync Sony TV.

P.S. Here’s more on connecting an additional device via Optical in addition to RCA. RCA port and Optical port are shared under the TV mode of the theater system. That means that you can only connect one of them. If there’s optical signal coming in(in my case, PS3, it will override the RCA one(in my case, cable TV). Essentially, you’re losing one or the other incoming port. If I don’t turn off my PS3 and flip over to my Cable channel, the theater system will still be broadcasting PS3 audio while my TV is showing cable TV. As I mentioned, the optical overrides RCA when they are both present. So for those of you with many audio devices, your choices maybe greatly limited. I think this system works the best if you have a Sony theater sync compatible TV using the DVD player that comes with the home theater system. Otherwise, you may have better luck to find a theater system that supports more devices.

Hope this helps.

GE 28821FE3 Feedback5
This GE Cordless Phone seemed just what I wanted. I checked the look and feel at a couple stores vs other phones. The specs sounded just right and though I only needed 2 handsets, the one with 3 from Outlet on Amazon seemed to be a great deal and gave me an extra handset and cradle for a spare. The 2 poor reviews gave me great concern, but I finally decided to buy it. I am glad I did. The phone is great, and everything it was advertised to be. No complaints, very clear and noise free, and I love the speakerphone feature in the handsets. Kent GE 28821FE3 DECT 6.0 Cordless Phone with Answering System and Caller ID

Sleek, light and dare I say it…. sexy.4
Around the 2 year mark we always end up tossing our cordless multiple handset systems because of battery life… add 3 young kids that throw them in the sink, splash them with water and drop them repeatedly; you get my drift. The displays started to go out, but most importantly like all systems the battery life diminishes after the first year and at a point becomes unbearable. Yes you can replace the batteries, but for the amount of a new set it is just wiser to replace aging technology.

That is when the GE Dect 6.0 digital handset moved in. I wanted the same button format as my other GE, but didn’t want to compromise on any of the features. A digital answering system was thrown in at the price point and is a back up to our current voicemail. I love the fact that their aren’t any antennas and that the backlight is a blue color. The buttons also illuminate very lightly when pressed. The reason I jumped for these was because of the GOOG-411 service that is free. I LOVE THAT feature. Before I would be constantly googling everything when I needed a phone number; this feature is truly a big relief and 100 percent voice activated. It does a wonderful job with the prompts and once again it is completely FREE information built into your phone.

I did see some negative reviews but still took a chance. Voice clarity is top notch and there are enough bells and whistles to make it pretty enough (such a girl here). The sleek lines and small size won’t have you hiding it out of sight.

Highly recommend this system… one star removed because as another person mentioned there is a lag between functions such as hanging up and quickly redialing. You will end up dialing half the number only because the system hasn’t caught up. We don’t have patience so that took one star away. Another thing that I can see that would bug people is the fact that the light on the base and handset is very bright at night where it will actually illuminate the surrounding area blue. This doesn’t bother me but if you put it in your line of sight where the television is, you will be distracted.

Awful Reception2
These phones are awful. The reception on them is horrible. Lots and lots of static. I thought maybe it was my 2 level house. I gave the phones away after callers mentioned how they would hear alot of static while we were speaking to them on the phone. We could hear the static ourselves during phone conversations. Although the features are great I had to get rid of them. I sold them to a friend for cheap and wound of purchasing the Panasonic Dect 6.0. I’m trying those out but trust me this phones were such a waste of my money. So far the friend I sold them to also mentioned hearing alot of static. I haven’t heard back again so I’m not even sure if she’ll decide to keep them. Don’t waste your money on these. You will be disappointed like I was.

Not what I was expecting from Denise… in a GREAT way!4
I have a ton of fitness videos, and picked this one up on a whim. I am SO glad I did! I was surprised at how efficient the entire program was.. it was fast moving, but I felt like my entire body was worked, and worked well. I almost gave up on Denise after her Burn Fat Fast video, which was frustrating in that it didn’t provide a high intensity workout.
I completed the entire program tonight, and it was FUN and not in a dancy, breezy way – but in a way that moved along without getting boring.
Beginners will definitely get frustrated with this because it IS Denise, and her cueing is atrocious.. BUT if you exercise often, and are familar with a variety of moves you will catch on quickly. I highly recommend this dvd for exercisers wanting to throw in some great variety (which there is a TON in this video) I am now a happy (boot)camper!

I used to run 10k a day5
I used to be a very active athlete..running, basketball, gymnastics…you name it. A couple of months ago I graduated college and moved out to a tiny apartment in a big city with my boyfriend and needed to find a way to workout without paying big bucks for a gym and without running in the dangerous area I live in.

This was the answer. I consider myself in great shape, and was very skeptical about girly workout videos. Since I started this video my flexibility improved greatly, I’ve become more defined, and my balance has improved. I never weigh myself, but if you eat your greens and use this workout tape, you will lose fat. Also, I’m very muscular and was worried about getting “big,” and this doesn’t do that at all.

I was also very concerned about how cheesy this was going to be. I didn’t want to look like an idiot working out in front of my boyfriend, and you really don’t do anything ridiculous, like some of the dance cardio stuff out there. In fact, sometimes he jumps in and tries to keep up.

My suggestion: do the 40 minute workout every other day, and use Carmen Electra’s Fit to Strip (disk 2) every other day. Results are amazing.

Not my cup of tea…2
I bought this DVD in hopes that I could work it in with the rotation of the other exercise DVD’s I own in an effort to keep from plateauing. I was very disappointed with the workout on the DVD. I am not going to criticize Denise though because I found her as the host/leader to be alright. What I didn’t care for was the choreography on this DVD. There were several things about the choreography that I didn’t like such as the fact that so few reps are done on each exercise and just as you really getting into one exercise it is time to move on to the next. There is a lot of jumping and bouncing involved which I don’t really care for, and this workout requires you to have an extraordinary amount of balance. I also didn’t feel like I worked out. I consider this DVD to be a moderate workout and I was hoping for a heavy workout. I also felt like this DVD was misleading. On the case it says there is kick boxing and there was very little kick boxing used in this workout.

All in all, I just didn’t really like this workout DVD and found it boring and it just wasn’t my cup of tea. I do, however, highly recommend Kathy Smith, Leslie Sansone or TamiLee Webb.

Customer Reviews:

Gateway, Yep, still in business5
Gateway is still in business. Although now built by ACER the Gateway NV53 is quite a nice product. In the past I have owned 3 Gateway’s which have all lasted a modest amount of time. After the ACER aquisition I never really thought to even look at a Gateway as I sure was unhappy with two ACER’s I had ordered and sent back. While flipping through the TV channels the other day I came upon a “Today’s Special” on HSN. It was this Gateway. I watched and watched and watched and boy did I listen to the host (who lied the entire time) and a Gateway rep. (also a liar). They just went on and on about the Blu-Ray player and the Hard Drive Space 320GB and 4Meg of Ram. They spoke of how no other Gateway was available with a Blu-Ray as HSN has bought them all out for this sale and how at $699 a special 800 number to India and $380 bucks worth of useless software this deal could not be made anywhere else. Just couldn’t be. Afterall they had a the Blu-Ray drives and 3 interest free payments.
Not being one to trust a no nothing Host on HSN I began to scour the net to see what I could come up with. Not only did I find the Red Gateway that I wanted, it also had a 500GB Hard Drive and it had a superior processor to the one on HSN. It had the same Web Cam and the same everything except that wonderful software bundle. (cough, choke, hack, hack). And low and behold it was available on my AMAZON card for 12 months and no interest. How could this be? An Employee from Gateway and an HSN host both told the same story which was an out and out lie. I’m typing right this minute on my new Gateway that I bought from Amazon and received in 2 days, not 10. The computer is great. Full sized keyboard and a numeric key pad. A full motion touch pad, blu-ray, 500GB Hard Disk and 4mg of Ram all here and working beautifully. Acer aside, this machine still has a nice feel to it and is put together very well. From the Gateway Emblem to the Vision M500 Processor and HDMI port, this machine has just about everything you would want. I suggest you look at all the Gateway’s available on AMAZON and at [...] as they are still building a solid, great looking product. Only draw back is that 800 number to India but I’m hoping to never use it. Most problems are created by the user and if you keep backups you can do all the repairs yourself. My vote, BUY A GATEWAY and buy it here at Amazon not at HSN.

Gateway NV535
Great product and well advanced above everything else. Wish it would have added bluetooth, That’s the only thing missing. Very easy to set up and fast shipping. Cost is very compatible to other laptops with less on them.

Cool Product5
I am always on the lookout for any product that can make my brown eyes look interesting and I finally found it. I just add a little bit of water onto my brush and dip it in the jar and spread this eyeshadow on my whole lid and it makes my brown eyes look lighter, almost a golden brown. Who would have thought that using a shadow in a shade of brown could make my eyes look this fabulous. This definitely is a bit pricey and the jar is tiny but the results are worth it.

Made of awesome5
I’m really pale and LimeCrime’s bright colors make me look clownish, but this one is more subtle and I absolutely LOVE it. You don’t get a whole lot of product, but it’s highly pigmented so unless you use gobs if it it’ll last quite a while. Also, the picture makes it look a little more purple-reddish than it is, it’s more of a terra-cotta but I think it looks way better than the photo. It’s very shimmery, compliments any eye color and is good for both day and evening. I will order this product again. ^_^

Not a crime to look stunning4
I managed to find this product by accident while looking for MAC pigments. I decided to try this particular color to make my blue eyes stand out and was pleasantly surprised. The cost is a bit off for the amount you get, but for a trial item, I am not concerned. The color payoff is awesome!

Customer Reviews:

I learned a lot5
I loved The Cartoonist! It was extremely entertaining and educational. I learned a lot about an industry I find fascinating. This is an incredible look inside Jeff Smith and his global “Bone” phenomenon as well the world of comic books and self-publishing. I highly recommend this DVD for anyone… but especially those interested in comic books, the comic arts and graphic novels. It’s also a must-have for aspiring cartoonists as there is a wealth of information packed inside. This DVD is great!!

Must watch for any indy comic fan or jeff smith fan5
This took me back. I was a comic dealer in 1992 an bought a lot of the books that Jeff was talking about. I remember my first prints 1 – 6 and how cool I thought they were. My wife even read the things and that was a first for me. Made a lot of money off the things too. Anyway, tells the story of the indy artist while focusing on jeff smith and bone. Tells how he came up with the story and how he got through writing the comic and what he plans to do later on somewhat. I met Jeff a long time ago and thought it was neat then. After seeing the dvd I am even more impressed with him and his story. Anyway, if you want to know about a cool story inside of a cool story either buy it or rent it. Anyway, just see it. On a side note, if the person you are seeing it with has no clue who Jeff Smith or bone is they will hate it.

Perfect for Comics and Animation Enthusiasts5
This video is a 76 min. documentary about Jeff Smith and his life before, during, and after the creation of the Bone graphic novel epic. It’s exceptionally well produced and includes many interview segments with Jeff, Scott McCloud, and Jeff’s friends/co-conspirators who worked with him for decades.

In the documentary you’ll discover the origins of all the Bone characters and the lengthy process Smith went through to achieve the completion of his graphic novel.

One of the most interesting segments of this video is that it reveals Jeff’s seven year stint as a part-owner of a small animation studio doing corporate/commercial work. Smith and McCloud describe how that experience helped translate and realize the vision behind Bone. It’s especially pertinent for new comics artists and cartoonists. For me, it was the missing link to understanding WHY the art within Bone is so good, aside from technical expertise.

One bonus feature included on this DVD is an 82 min. discussion between Scott McCloud and Jeff Smith that took place at Ohio State University in front of a live audience. Combined with the primary video on the DVD, that totals over 2.5 hours of quality content.

Also included is a brief introduction by Jeff Smith to his latest project, RASL.

Overall, this DVD is a must-have for anyone looking to create their own graphic novels. It serves as inspiration and a guide, revealing insights to the process and what it takes to succeed. Highly Recommended!

Review
My son and I bundled under some blankets this rainy weekend to watch the documentary on Jeff Smith, creator of the very popular BONE comics/graphic novel. The documentary is called “The Cartoonist: Jeff Smith, BONE and the Changing Face of Comics” and it is a treat. The video features extensive interviews with Jeff Smith and friends and admirers, and tracks the evolution of BONE in Jeff Smith’s fertile mind.

Here are a few things that really jumped out at me:

–Smith notes that he remembers making some of the characters that are in BONE back when he was five or six years old. He says he drew all the time, everywhere, and talks about the evolution of the Bone characters over time. He uses three main characters, who are archetypes for Smith himself, and notes that he got one of the names for Fone-Bone from Mad Magazine via Don Martin s site gag comics. I chuckled over that one.

–Smith was interested in using the comic concept to create a long-form story (a 1,000 page book, as he put it) in the vein of The Odyssey or Moby Dick. From the start, he knew the story arc that would take place over time — in this case, more than 10 years of comics that told one big story. If you have ever held the collected BONE book in your hand, you ll see that he has succeeded. It s huge and hefty and rich with story.

–Smith got his start in commercial animation — there are some scenes of he and his partners making “cells” of animation, which are overlays — and the documentary notes how his experience in moving pictures seeps into his comics, through the use of movement across frames and consistency of characters.

–Smith explains how he uses symbolism, imagery and allusions in his BONE stories and one interesting scene shows Smith hiking through a forest area with waterfalls and streams that are depicted in his BONE book as the epicenter of the story. My son said, “That s just like in the book!” Smith also notes how important the symbol of water is to storytellers and how he uses it himself in his book.

–At one point, Smith notes how much the audience for comics and graphic novels have changed. It is no longer 30-year-old men in comic shops. Now, there are kids (again) interested in comics and graphic novels, and he notes that librarians understand this shift. While book lending is mostly down in libraries, the one stack that shows constant growth is the graphic novel/comic stack. And the film notes that librarians and teachers see the use of graphic novels for engagement of young readers in text and can be a “bridge” to novels and other forms of reading.

All in all, “The Cartoonist” is a wonderful look at the man behind BONE, and the life of a comic book artist. Smith is engaging and open and excited to be where he is, and when you see the lines and lines of people of all ages waiting at conventions and book signing just to shake his hand or get an autograph, you realize just how much effect Smith and others are having on our views of literature when it comes to Sequential Art.

What I wonder is: what impact will these graphic novels have on young writers and what will the results of that influence be when we look at the field in 10 years? I can t wait.

If you are a teacher searching for a movie that explains the creative writing and art process of comics and graphic novels, I suggest you consider “The Cartoonist” for your collection. –Kevin Hodgson (dogtrax.edublogs.org)

Review
Last week, I had the opportunity to see the new documentary, “The Cartoonist: Jeff Smith, BONE and the Changing Face of Comics.” I believe it debuted just before Comic Con International this year. My friend and fellow cartoonist Grant Sutherland ordered it off the Internet and we watched it over beers and cigars. I can’t recommend this film highly enough. It was such an inspiration to see all the details behind the creation of BONE, Smith’s amazing graphic novel. The film itself is well made and interesting and has lot’s of great interviews, convention footage and information on Smith’s early career. As soon as it was over I just wanted to get back to my desk and keep drawing. –Nate Bramble (hermithillcomic.com)

“The Cartoonist” simultaneously illustrates the power of comics and the genius of Jeff Smith. This is essential viewing for comics fans, as it provides a well-rounded picture of what it takes to create an enduring classic. For teachers of BONE, it may spark supplemental lesson plan ideas such as research into Smith’s influences, as well as provide insight to the symbols present this masterful work. Highly recommended. –Out from the Comic Shop (outfromthecomicshop.com)

A laugh-riot!5
When Major Benson Payne (played by Damon Wayans), a one-man-army in a Marine uniform, is discharged, he needs to find a new life. Given command of the Madison Academy Junior ROTC, he sets out to whip the gang of misfit youths into shape. Used to the toughest discipline and the hardest life, Payne is the children’s worst nightmare, and there is nothing they won’t do to get rid of him. Along the way, though, Payne and his command all learn a few lessons.

This movie is a laugh-riot! Wayans’ Payne is hilarious, being just the right mixture of homicidal maniac and tender father figure, while the ROTC cadets make a perfect foil for the Major. My family have never laughed so hard at a movie as we did at this one, with my son being quite pleased with how the Major deals with a “monster” in a young lad’s closet – “If he’s still in there, he’s not happy!”

This is a great movie, the one caveat being that there are quite a few colorful words tossed around by the Major and the cadets. That said, though, this was a hilarious movie that you and your family will like watching again and again!

The Total Remake of “The Private War of Major Benson”4
Dear Reader,

It is true I was in training to be a film-maker of some portent…Yes, I was properly versed in the International Film Art scene, Avante-Garde and Film- Noir…I have been exposed to “Potemkin”, “400 Hundred Blows”, “The Bicycle Thief”, “Day for Night”, etc… but…….

Again let me indulge you in another one of my film “guilty pleasures”….”Major Payne”…

Yes, it is a remake of 1955, “The Private War Of Major Benson” but it’s as opposite as the two Kirks in TOS, “Mirror, Mirror”…..

The 1955 movie definetely has a feel of “gosh, golly, and swell”…..Although “good” for it’s time it generally has the “sickly sweet” feeling thoughout.

“Major Payne” takes a completely 180 degree turn….

That’s right, the 1995 Major (Damon Wayans) is not a boisterous, chauvanistic, drunk….

No Siree, Bob! Major Winifred Benson Payne is a 100% killing machine…Out of his own platoon he not only captures the head “bad guy” but the bad guy’s entire army! When one of his platoon mates is shot in the leg, the Major has a very “sick” solution to “Getting your mind off a that pain?” This Major is a “human terminator”; Great example is his story telling version of “The Little Train that Could”…I would go into detail but I won’t as the children reading this may acquire horribly scarred pysche’s…

The children in the movie are not the cute, innocent, gum chewers of 1955 but can be equally venomous and dangerous as the Major as seen in their exploits of getting rid of the Major….C’mon what kinda of kid tries to photograph a boy dressed up as a girl pretending to be sleeping with their ROTC instructor….

PRETTY DEMENTED KIDS!!!!

Yes, this movie goes way overboard on the Major’s character (live ammo on the training grounds) and the children’s character (payola to the local town motorcycle gang leader) but at least it has the guts to come forth and tell us just how hard it is to teach today’s kids!!!!!

But, seriously folks, let your hair down and have a good hard laugh….Check out “Major Payne”….

P.S. Seeing the partial parody of “Apocolypse Now” at the beginning well worth seeing this movie!

Major Payne has hurt my sides with laughter.4
“Major Payne” is one of the funniest movies that I enjoy to watch over and over again. I thought that Damon Wayans delivered a knockout performance as the loud-mouthed, gold-toothed, trash talking, squeaky voiced Major Benson Winifred Payne. He was so funny that I nearly had a heart attack while laughing at the same time.

After a major drug bust goes extremely well in South America, Major Payne (Damon Wayans) returns to Parris Island, South Carolina and finds out that the U.S. Marine Corps is throwing him out of the military back into civilian life. After two weeks of civilian life, Payne is let back into the military under one condition: go to Virginia and train a group of delinquents for an ROTC program at Madison Academy. Payne regretfully accepts the job and puts each of the boys into 8 weeks of living hell! It becomes a fight because the boys do what they can to put Major Payne out of their lives!

I have so many favorites scene through out this movie but the one that shines the brightest is when Wayans had a dance sequence at a club where he performs a series of moves (including a very nice “robot”), and with the help of music from 2 Live Crew. Many of the gags are side-splitting funny, and the vocal tones and mannerisms of Major Payne are just spot-on hilarious. And the kids in the film do a remarkable job in their supporting roles. The kids in fact steal the show (especially the younger ones). Lots of absurdity in the movie, but still here and there peeks through a poignant maturity on the deeper symbolism of what boot camp is all about

Of course, it is a feel good movie so you know everything will work out in the end. Base on some of the lower reviews you can see that this movie is not for everyone, but at the same time is worth seeing. If you don’t like it by the time Payne does his “Failure to communicate!” line then maybe it isn’t for you. As for me it’s utterly brilliant.

Let’s face facts here: You don’t watch a movie like Major Payne for its artistic merit any more than you’d watch Schindler’s List for its comedy. If you go in thinking otherwise, you’re bucking for a disappointment. So it’s a pleasant surprise to discover that Major Payne is more entertaining than a barrel full of bad reviews would lead you to believe. It’s a totally formulaic comedy about a bunch of misfit kids who turn into a crack squad of skillfully disciplined ROTC cadets, but Damon Wayans is spot-on hilarious in the title role as the hardened military bulldog who whips the little slackers into shape. Wayans plays the role as if killing and warfare were the only joys in life, and when he finds himself cast adrift without a military commission, a scene that directly parodies Apocalypse Now lets you know that Wayans (who cowrote the script) is going to bring something new to this routine scenario. Major Payne’s idea of a good bedtime story is to recall his worst battlefield horrors, and Wayans gives it just the right twist of comedy to put Payne’s bullet-pierced heart in the right place–he’s really just a good guy with an iron-clad exterior. The young recruits strut their stuff in the final round of their cadet competition (their marching rap is good for a solid laugh), and director Nick Castle keeps it all from becoming too stupid or over the top. It’s arguably only for Wayans’s most ardent fans, but as a send-up of all the great movie drill instructors, Major Payne is painlessly enjoyable. –Jeff Shannon

Good/Necessary Product for Ipod touch4
Being that I got my ipod touch the second day it came out, I had to live with no cover for a couple a of weeks since they didn’t have cases yet. Granted the ipod is very durable and the screen does not scratch, however, even though I never dropped my ipod once I started noticing small scratch marks on the back. This is why I highly recommend getting a silicone case like this.

Pros
-Case fits the ipod touch very well. Unlike what others are saying, the holes all line up because it is made for the ipod touch not the iphone. There are no holes for the speakers. I particularly like how there is a hole for the home button. Other cases will cover this part, which just makes it harder to double click so you can get the music controls to pop up.

-The seller includes the clear plastic screen protectors for those who need more assurance that the screen won’t scratch. I would rather have this than a case that covers the whole screen because it removes the hassle when quick access to the controls is needed (ie. in the car)

-It is fairly priced and does exactly what its supposed to do. Plus seller gets the product to you in about 3 business days.

Cons:
-Because of the silicon material, the case does attract lint when putting it in your pocket. It is not much of hassle to wipe off the case and remove the dirt.

-There are 2 strips of uncovered surface on the back. This is made for the band that comes with the order. Armband does come in handy, but others might not have use for it. Personally I would rather have the back of the ipod fully covered, but the uncovered surface is not large enough to compromise quality of the product.

Nicely designed5
The case fits beautifully and is molded to conform to the profile of the two buttons on the Touch (the power button and the main menu button). One thing I really like is that unlike other protective cases, this one does not increase the profile of the iPod to the point that it doesn’t fit into a cradle. I use a couple of devices with cradle interfaces and it fits snuggly even with the case on.

The screen protector that was included went on smoothly and is absolutely invisible. The touchscreen is perfectly responsive underneath the cover, plus there seems to be a bit of anti-glare protection.

ONE NOTE: The cover, at least on my Touch, seems to block the light sensor (not sure where it is) because after putting on the sleeve the Touch screen dims and stays dimmed. I had to turn off the auto-dim feature, which is fine because it’s not something I was too concerned with. I just set the screen brightness manually.

Good case, but 2 small flaws4
This case is good given the price. I wanted something to keep my ipod from getting smudgy and this does that.

I only have 2 small complaints.

1. Be aware that the case has NO screen protection. Luckily Vizu included a screen protector because my order was delayed. Had I not had a screen protector, I would have been less than pleased.

2. There are 2 slits in the back of the case so you can clip it to something (belt, bag, etc.), which I would actually prefer not to have, but not a big deal.

Oh, and despite what the picture may or not be, this case does fit my Ipod Touch.
